A youth was killed and two others injured in an attack by miscreants late Tuesday night in the Sikanderpur area of Amriti under English Bazar, Malda. The victims were part of a local night patrol formed by residents due to an ongoing surge in thefts and crimes in the area. The deceased has been identified as Shibu Mondal. The two injured individuals were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Residents allege that despite repeated complaints over the past few months about rising criminal activities, no effective police action was taken. Fearing for their safety, villagers began guarding the area themselves during night hours. During one such patrol, a group of youths was attacked by armed miscreants. The sudden assault left Mondal dead on the spot, triggering widespread unrest.
By Wednesday morning, protests erupted across Sikanderpur. Roads were blocked and the area witnessed heavy public outrage. Locals demanded immediate arrests and police deployment. The situation turned tense as the area resembled a conflict zone. Police officials reached the spot and initiated an investigation. Authorities have not yet confirmed any arrests.
